Learning the Strategy

Life can often be mirrored in a multitude of things; movies, books, games etc. This means taking lessons from these formats will often benefit you in the real world. Take games for example, specifically strategy games.

A key skill needed to be successful at strategy games is the ability to think like your opponent. Chess is a great example. In chess, being able to be think like your opponent will put you 2-3 steps ahead of them, which gives you a great advantage.

But how does that translate into life?

Look at your career goal. There are countless others who share that same goal. While you may not know these people personally, you do have the same passion in common. Therefore you likely have similar mindsets and that’s what you’ll exploit. Simply think, “what are things I would do?”, map out those possibilities and plan your best move.

This strategy gives you a few benefits. It allows you to think more critically about what steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals. It also reminds you that other people are chasing the same dream which will then push you to work harder than your competition.

In chess you can sets traps and and out play your opponent, which is something that life does not mirror. Instead of trying to be smarter than your opponent, be quicker. Use your strategy to map out the most effective way of success (which is not always the easiest or fastest), and run full speed ahead.
