Customer Service

The customer is always right, right? Well… not always. It is entirely possible for both parties to be in the wrong. Regardless, customer service should always be polite, patient, and understanding.

In order to work in customer service you need the aforementioned traits. Customers, especially those who haven’t worked in retail or customer based environments, have no reason to be nice to customer service reps. Is it fair? Not at all. But it is reality.

A customer service representative must always respond to the customer in a polite and understanding manner. Getting upset or standoffish with the customer does not benefit anyone. If anything, it makes the entire interaction longer and more unpleasant than necessary.

The representative must also be patient. The customer may have a hard time explaining or understanding their situation. Without taking the time to really understand and talk to the customer about their problem, the issue won’t be resolved as smoothly or as quickly.

Yes, the customer won’t always be right; however, getting into a screaming match with them will not resolve anything. Be polite, patient, and understanding when handling the situation. Maintain a good attitude. Most issues can be resolved in a matter of minutes.

Good customer service keeps customers coming back. even if they weren’t happy. Poor customer service will lose customers forever, even if they left with what they wanted.
